Welcome to our website with more information about our Reception class at Strothoff International School. Our Reception class focuses on play-based learning to effectively prepare children for their transition to Grade 1 in the Primary school. By offering interactive and engaging activities, taught bilingually in English and German, our goal is to cultivate a joy of learning while nurturing skills, interests, and talents that will support children as they progress in their educational path.

We still have places available in the Reception class in the next school year 24/25.

Why a Reception class?

We treat every child as a precious and unique individual with special talents. We aim to identify these talents at an early age so that we can support their development effectively.

For this reason, we offer the reception class to children who are five years of age in the last year of kindergarten before starting school. The Reception class is part of the Primary school. The play-based learning activities effectively prepares children for their transition to G1 Primary school. Play is not static. Children play to practice skills, try out possibilities, revise hypotheses and discover new challenges, leading to deeper learning. Learn more about play-based learning here (external Download PDF).

The Immersion Method

Everyday life in one of our bilingual primary schools is not a challenge. Even children without knowledge of a second language can easily follow the lessons, thanks to the immersion method. Immersion means that the students learn and experience both languages throughout the day.

They thus learn the new language as naturally as their mother tongue – without any pressure or being overwhelmed by too many vocabularies. The immersive method places a lot of emphasis on facial expressions and gestures. In this way, the children learn what is said from the context and gradually incorporate the new language into their everyday speech.

All-day care

The children receive additional lessons beyond the framework curriculum to further promote bilingualism.

Income-dependent school fees

In order to enable all children to attend the Reception and Primary school classes, the school fees are based on the total amount of income of the parents. The individual fee is calculated in each case when the school contract is signed.
