This week our PYP2 students are in for a very special treat—an evening dedicated entirely to the joy of reading, curiosity, and imagination. On Thursday, June 12, we will be hosting our annual Lesenacht, a much-loved tradition that transforms our classrooms into cozy, story-filled spaces where books come to life.
A Night of Reading, Adventure, and Fun
Lesenacht will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will end the following morning with a cheerful breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The evening promises a variety of activities designed to spark a love of books and build classroom community. Students will:
- Enjoy a shared dinner together
- Take part in an exciting scavenger hunt
- Listen to captivating stories
- Read their own favorite books
- Participate in other fun and creative activities throughout the evening
While the full sleepover experience is encouraged, families who prefer not to have their child stay overnight can arrange to pick them up at 8:00 pm., after most of the key events have taken place.
What to Bring
To make the evening as comfortable and cozy as possible, students should come prepared. Here’s what they need:
Required items:
- Sleeping mat (no air mattresses, please)
- Sleeping bag or blanket and pillow
- Pajamas or comfortable sleepwear
- Towel, toothbrush, and toothpaste
- A favorite book to read
- A water bottle
Optional items:
- A small stuffed animal for bedtime comfort
Things to leave at home:
- Candy
- Mobile phones and electronics
- Toys
A Gentle First Step Toward Independence
For many students, Lesenacht may be their first experience spending the night away from home in a school setting. It's a fantastic, low-pressure opportunity to foster independence in a safe, familiar environment. And with teachers leading the evening—including some very enthusiastic readers!—students are sure to feel supported and included.
A Night to Remember
Whether students choose to stay the night or head home after storytime, we know this evening will be filled with laughter, learning, and the quiet magic of shared stories. We can’t wait to see sleeping bags rolled out, flashlights in hand, and students turning pages under cozy covers.
Let the stories begin!
