The Middle Years Programme (MYP) Personal Project represents a significant milestone for students in their final year of the MYP. It is a self-directed inquiry that allows students to explore a topic of personal significance, set ambitious learning goals, and create a tangible product or outcome.

This year, our students have engaged in a wide range of diverse and meaningful projects, demonstrating creativity, research skills, and problem-solving abilities. The accompanying photos represent only a few of the outstanding projects our students have developed this year.

Understanding the MYP Personal Project

The Personal Project is an independent research-based assignment where students

  • select a topic of personal interest and define a research focus;
  • set a learning goal outlining what they aim to develop or understand;
  • establish a product goal that demonstrates their learning in a tangible way;
  • engage in an inquiry process, including research, planning, and reflection;
  • apply Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, such as time management, critical thinking, and communication; and
  • create a final report documenting their research, challenges, and outcomes.
  •

The project is a culmination of the skills developed throughout the MYP, allowing students to apply their learning in authentic, real-world contexts.

The Impact of the Personal Project

The MYP Personal Project is more than an academic requirement; it is an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful, real-world learning experiences. Through this process, students:

  • develop essential skills, including critical thinking, research, and self-management;
  • pursue personal interests, making learning more relevant and engaging;
  • create impactful products, applying knowledge to tangible outcomes; and
  • prepare for future academic and career paths, gaining experience in independent inquiry and project management.

This year’s projects highlight a remarkable range of interests and expertise, from technology and science to cultural exploration and social advocacy. Each project reflects the dedication and creativity of our students, showcasing their ability to turn ideas into action.

The MYP Personal Project Exhibition will provide an opportunity for students to showcase their work, share their learning experiences, and present their final products to the school community. This event is a celebration of their achievements and a testament to the value of student-driven inquiry. We hope to see you there on Thursday and Friday, April 24th and 25th!
